Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday, and Indian sports legends paid heartfelt homage to him, calling him a visionary with quiet strength and humility.
Singh passed away here after becoming unconscious at home from age-related illnesses. He was ninety-two.
“Dr. Manmohan Singhji, may you rest in peace. His humility, intelligence, and calm strength were incredibly motivating. He was nice, gracious, and made a lasting impression during our brief encounter in 2013. On “X,” India’s top shuttler Sindhu tweeted, “My deepest sympathies to his family.”
The renowned cricketer Sachin Tendulkar called Singh’s passing a “great loss for the nation.”
“India has suffered a great loss with the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. We will never forget the contributions he made to our country. As we grieve his loss, my thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.
Legendary golfer Jeev Milkha Singh recalled Singh’s modesty and simplicity, stating that he had dedicated his life to serving his country.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh was a straightforward and incredibly intelligent man who was perhaps one of the most humble people I had ever encountered. His feeling of obligation and accountability was evident. Jeev wrote, “The world has lost a visionary.”
During their respective national assignments on Friday, the men’s and women’s cricket teams honoured the former prime minister by donning black armbands.
