India vs. Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will take place in a neutral location; all New ICC events until 2028 will use a hybrid approach.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, however the schedule hasn’t been revealed because of the stalemate around this matter. After vehemently opposing the hybrid approach, the PCB ultimately consented to it on a reciprocal basis.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025 finally declared on Thursday that, rather than Pakistan, the tournament’s official host, India’s matches at the Champions Trophy 2025 next year would take place at a neutral location. As part of the agreement, Pakistan will also play its matches on neutral ground and avoid travelling to India for any ICC tournaments till 2028.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, however the schedule hasn’t been revealed because of the stalemate around this matter. After vehemently opposing the hybrid approach, the PCB ultimately consented to it on a reciprocal basis.

Since former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah assumed the role of ICC head, this is the first significant ruling. It is anticipated that this hybrid model will avoid any deadlocks before significant events in the upcoming years, for all events up until 2028.

“This will apply to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India), the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (hosted by India and Sri Lanka), and the forthcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), which is scheduled to take place in February and March 2025,” the world organisation stated in a statement.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup hosting rights for 2028 have been given to the Pakistan Cricket Board, and neutral venue arrangements will also be in place, the statement added.

The location of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 matches was not specified in the announcement; nevertheless, the BCCI has indicated that the UAE is the favoured location. The tournament host will select the neutral location, which must be authorised by the ICC.

The ICC stated that the tournament schedule will be made public when it is ready. The matches will also take place in a neutral location if India advances to the tournament’s semifinals or final.

Citing security concerns, India had insisted on not attending the event in Pakistan. Pakistan had requested the explanations in writing, claiming that there had been no security issues during the previous few years’ tours by any other big cricketing teams. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, is also the interior minister of Pakistan.

Pakistan cited a statement sent out by the ICC board to its members in October last month, stating that no nation had raised any objections to the Champions Trophy 2025 schedule. But two weeks after sending that letter, the BCCI told the ICC that it was hesitant to visit Pakistan.

Since the terrible attacks in Mumbai in 2008, India has not performed in Pakistan. India hosted the Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka last year, while Pakistan travelled to India for the 50-over World Cup. The two nations exclusively participate in multi-team competitions and haven’t played a bilateral series since 2013 due to tense relations.

In the Champions Trophy 2025, India is in Group A alongside the reigning champions Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B is made up of Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan. Pakistan will host its first ICC tournament since 1996.

Since Sri Lanka and India are co-hosting the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s matches can be held there.
